Ethnic Stencils

Ethnic Stencils

I love stencils, I think it comes from spending our honeymoon in Maryam’s BEAUTIFUL Peacock Pavilions in Marrakech. The stencils at Peacock Pavilions were done by Royal Design Studio. In our last apartment I was inspired by our Moroccan room to do a black and gold pattern on a wall in our old apartment. Last summer we bought a victorian house and I’m really excited to do another stencil piece somewhere. I’m thinking maybe the wall in either our living room or dining room in one of these African patterns from Royal Design Studio. See all of Melanie of Royal Design Studio’s amazing posts on Morocco here.

Charitable map prints for NY + NJ

Charitable map prints for NY + NJ

Places that I am close to have suffered terrible natural disasters as of late. First the earthquake in Haiti where I worked for Aid to Artisans, last year’s Hurricane Irene caused a terrible amount of destruction for my family in Vermont, now Hurricane Sandy all along the North East – but for me the damage in NY and NJ hits home the most. I’ve loved going to NYC since I was a young one – whether I was strolling along brownstones or staring up at skyscrapers.  2 years ago I researched Wildwood, NJ for my Places I Have Never Been travel poster series and fell in love with the boardwalk, amusement park, the trolley… I always feel helpless as to how I can help during these time and I can only donate so much to the Red Cross on my own. I decided to make special edition map prints for New Jersey and New York. Each print features the map silhouette filled with the state’s PIHNB pattern, the state name and the state motto. The Map Prints are 8″ x 10″ and are $25 each and we will donate the net proceeds to the Red Cross. I feel very lucky that my family weathered the storm in Boston without incident. I hope we can raise a few bucks for charity and in return you can hang a print on your wall to remind you how much you love these states. – xo jhill UPDATE! As of 12/11/12 we’ve raised $1,024 for the Red Cross. THANKS!! Makes me a little weepy…
